Pennsylvania NOW Interim Officers
Dear Feminists:
My name is Nina Ahmad, former NOW Board member, and former Philadelphia NOW Chapter President. I wanted to update you on the leadership changes at Pennsylvania NOW. Beth Finn who took over as President of PA NOW last summer resigned on March 30, 2021. We thank Beth for her service and wish her well in her future endeavors.
I am on the PA NOW PAC Board and was originally asked to step up as the Interim PAC Chair so that we could make sure the endorsement process for the May 18th PA Primary was executed smoothly.
Soon after that Beth resigned and we contacted National NOW. National NOW and leadership at the PAC decided that I would take over as Interim President of PA NOW and appoint an interim Board. We are very grateful that Treasurer Louise Francis has agreed to stay on during this transition period.
It is my pleasure to introduce our NEW Interim Executive Board composed of Jeannette Geter as Vice President and Janet Hill as Secretary. Jeannette is a proud member of SEIU 668, a life-long Philadelphian, and a social worker. Janet Hill, National Vice President of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) as well as a member of United Steel Workers (USW). She is the past President of the South West PA NOW Chapter and the current Political Legislative Committee Chair. I am grateful to have their expertise and support as we revitalize PA NOW and continue working to realize a broad vision of progress for women and their families. Together with all of you, we will continue to work tirelessly to promote constitutional equality, combat systemic racism, advocate for economic security and justice and end violence against all women, agitate for reproductive justice, push for immigration reform and fight for LGBTQ rights.
We will schedule elections for PA NOW soon after the Primaries are over and have asked the National NOW Action Center to help us with that process. We want to have a fully constituted Board with Delegates and Officers. We will keep you updated on the plans going forward.
PA NOW PAC has also recently released news about endorsements for the May 18th Primary.
In Solidarity,
Nina Ahmad
Interim President PA NOW
