Pennsylvania Representatives Brian Sims and Erin Molchany unveiled the pay equity law they were co-sponsoring on December 11, as part of the first package of bills rolling out for the Pennsylvania Agenda for Women’s Health. They officially introduced it on January 6th.
The law would tighten loopholes that allow Pennsylvania employers to continue to discriminate against women and protect workers who share salary information.
“The agenda is not just about reproductive health,” Molchany said in a statement. “It’s about economic justice, support for families, and making Pennsylvania a national leader in supporting all of its citizens with the tools to succeed.”
“We live in a country that guarantees each of us full equality under the law,” Sims said. “Right now, in this country and in this state, more than half of our population is being insidiously discriminated against. This bill is long overdue.”
There are 45 bi-partisan co-sponsors for this bill. The pay equity bill is part of a package of bills rolling out under the auspices of the Pennsylvania Agenda for Women’s Health, an initiative of the State Senate and House Women’s Health Caucuses.
