On Wednesday, July 9, from 4:30 p.m. EST to 5:15 p.m. EST, please join TalkPoverty.org as we again take the conversation about poverty in America and what we can do to dramatically reduce it online via Google Hangouts.
The topic of the second TalkPoverty LIVE! is Building an Economic Justice Movement. One of the major tenets of the civil rights movement was the call for economic justice, with good jobs and fair wages for all Americans. Fifty years after the Civil Rights Act was signed into law in July 1964, millions of American workers still don’t make a living wage, and—despite great progress—people of color still face disproportionately high rates of economic disadvantage.
Our guests will discuss their experiences in the economic justice movement—and what we need to do to strengthen it—if we are to finally provide all Americans with the economic security they deserve.
Featured participants include:
- Reverend William Barber III: President of the North Carolina NAACP and the founder of the Moral Mondays movement
- Will Pittz: Executive Director of the Washington Community Action Network and a leader of the victorious and historic minimum wage campaign in Seattle
- Maryam Adamu: Moderator; Emerson Hunger Fellow at the Center for American Progress
In addition to our featured guests, we will rely on YOU—your insights and questions—offered through tweets @TalkPoverty with the hashtag #talkpovertylive and posts on the TalkPoverty.org Facebook page during the conversation.
Wednesday, July 9, from 4:30 p.m. ET to 5:15 p.m. ET come here to join the conversation. We look forward to your participation!
