Censured Judge Honored After Letting Rapist Off the Hook

stop_rape_by_cloud_a_day_stock-d4aya5mOn Friday the Yellowstone Bar Association honored Judge G. Todd Baugh, for his lifetime of achievement. His most recent legal achievement was being suspended from the bench after sentencing rapist Stacey Rambold to 30 days after the girl he raped – his 14-year-old student Cherise Morales – subsequently committed suicide. Judge Baugh’s statements in the case revealed a deep gender bias which led to victim blaming and the perpetuation of other rape myths.

The anti-sexism group Ultraviolet sponsored a traveling billboard to draw attention to the issue. Montana NOW was out on Friday to rally in protest of the award, and Pennsylvania NOW sent a statement. Pennsylvania NOW and Montana NOW worked together to pursue the judge’s censure and see that Rambold was resentenced. He was – for ten years. Finally there was Justice For Cherise!
